DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE

Snoring & Sleep Apnea

Chronic snoring is a topic of many jokes, but bed partners and family members are not the only ones who suffer. Heavy snorers may experience fatigue, bruxism, headaches, heart problems and disturbed sleep. Snoring can be the symptom of a much more serious problem known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It is important to find out more about OSA.

A PROVEN CPAP ALTERNATIVE

Oral Appliance Therapy

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a non- invasive treatment used to treat snoring and sleep apnea. A oral appliance fits over your teeth like an mouthguard/retainer while you sleep and supports your jaw in a forward position to keep your airway open. A trained dental sleep medicine practitioner will assess your condition and make a custom-fit oral appliance for you. Follow up reviews are set to make sure your appliance remains comfortable and effective for you.

It is an effective treatment used for mild – moderate sleep apnea conditions. OAT is another alternative for individuals who cannot tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). It can also be combined used with CPAP to get a more effective result to treat sleep apnea. OAT can be used as a post recovery maintenance for individuals who undergo surgery.
